A huge well done to W Bro Geoff Davies, the current Worshipful Master of St Margaret’s Lodge No. 1872, a member of Renascentur Surrey Rugby Lodge and a past VO of the St George Group. Geoff and his two teammates took on Martha Trust’s Bonkers in Barcelona car rally and raised an incredible £12,000 for the charity.
The journey was every bit as eventful as the name suggests. Their car, “Barcelona Bella”, suffered electrical faults, overheated and at one point was running on just three cylinders.
The team even removed its front grille while crossing the Pyrenees to help keep the engine cool! After several jump-starts, Bella made it to Barcelona before finally heading for the scrapyard.
Behind the adventure is a wonderful cause. Martha Trust provides specialist residential care for adults with profound physical and multiple learning disabilities, giving them a supportive place to call home.
Congratulations to Geoff and his teammates on a brilliant fundraising achievement, and thank you to everyone who supported them along the way.
