Charity in the Province of Surrey

The values of Freemasonry are based on integrity, kindness, honesty and fairness. Freemasons are taught to practise charity and to care for the community as a whole through charitable giving, voluntary efforts and work as individuals.

Charitable giving lies at the heart of Freemasonry in Surrey, reflecting a deep commitment to supporting both Masonic and public causes within the local community.

Beyond local efforts, Freemasons also extend their generosity to national and international charities, providing vital aid and relief wherever it is needed most.

However, Freemasonry is about more than just financial contributions—it’s about showing compassion, offering practical support, and making a real difference in the lives of those who need it.

The Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) is dedicated to transforming lives by creating opportunities, improving healthcare, advancing education, and promoting independence. Its work extends not only to Freemasons and their families but also to the wider community, ensuring support is available wherever it’s needed most.

As one of the largest grant-making charities in the country, the MCF provides vital funding for life-changing projects, from medical research and support for vulnerable individuals to disaster relief and educational bursaries.

What makes the Foundation truly remarkable is that it is funded entirely through the generosity of Freemasons and their families. Their unwavering commitment to charity ensures that help is always available to those facing hardship, empowering individuals and communities to build brighter, more independent futures.

Through compassion and generosity, the Masonic Charitable Foundation continues to make a lasting impact—changing lives and strengthening communities across the nation and beyond.

Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution

The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI) has been providing care and support to older Freemasons and their families for over 170 years. Committed to delivering high-quality residential, nursing, and dementia care, the RMBI ensures residents can enjoy comfort, dignity, and independence in later life.

In Surrey, we are proud to have two RMBI care homes—Shannon Court in Hindhead and James Terry Court in South Croydon.

Both homes offer a warm, welcoming environment with personalised care, enabling residents to feel supported and at home.

The RMBI continues to uphold its long-standing tradition of compassionate care, enriching lives through respect, kindness, and community.

Teddies for Loving Care (Surrey)

TLC Surrey

In February 2003, Surrey Freemasons proudly introduced the Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) initiative, with East Surrey Hospital in Redhill leading the way as the first hospital in the county to pilot the scheme.

What began with just 12 teddy bears—lasting only two weeks—has grown into a remarkable success story.

Today, with 10 hospitals across Surrey involved, an incredible 48 bears are delivered to each unit every week, providing comfort to children during times of distress and medical treatment.

This heartwarming initiative is supported by the Provincial Grand Lodge of Surrey and local lodges, who work tirelessly to raise much-needed funds.

Donations from lodge funds and individual contributions ensure that this wonderful cause continues to bring smiles and reassurance to young patients when they need it most.
