What is Freemasonry

Freemasonry is among the oldest fraternal societies in the world with over 5,000 Freemasons in Surrey, over 200,000 members in England and Wales, as well as Districts overseas.

It is a vibrant society of like minded men from all types of backgrounds who enjoy meeting new friends and contributing to their local community.

Its core values are integrity, friendship, kindness and charity.

Through a series of degrees and self development a man can discover more about himself.

The emphasis in Freemasonry is to make a good man a better man.

Charity – at the heart of Freemasonry

Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of children, those who are ill and the care of older people, from its earliest days.

This work continues today among its own members and their dependents.

Funds raised by Freemasons for charity are given to non-Masonic national, international, disaster relief organizations and local charities in the communities around Surrey in support of their work for the benefit of non-masons, local communities and society in general.

In Surrey, we have two care homes at Shannon Court, Hindhead and James Terry Court in Croydon both run by the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI).
