On Saturday 18th July 2026, the Surrey Masonic Sports Association, in partnership with Brownrigg Lodge No. 1638 – The Fishing Lodge, hosted a hugely successful Family Fishing Fun Day at Warwick Wold Waters, Merstham, Bletchingley, on Ash Lake.
The event welcomed 20 children and 15 adults for a memorable morning of fishing between 10:00am and 2:00pm. With glorious sunshine and fish that were certainly feeding, the day couldn’t have gone much better. Best of all, every single child caught fish, with many experiencing the thrill of landing their very first catch.
Designed to be a fun, family-friendly introduction to angling, the event provided all fishing equipment and bait, ensuring everyone, from complete beginners to those with a little experience, could simply turn up and enjoy the day.
Watching so many young people discover the excitement of fishing, while families spent quality time together outdoors, perfectly demonstrated what the event was all about: creating lasting memories and introducing more people to a wonderful pastime.
The response exceeded all expectations. Demand was so high that bookings had to be closed well before the event, and organisers have already received numerous enquiries asking when the next Family Fishing Fun Day will take place.
The organisers would like to express their sincere thanks to the volunteers whose patience, enthusiasm and willingness to share their knowledge ensured that everyone enjoyed a fantastic experience, regardless of age or ability.

The overwhelming success of the day has demonstrated there is a real appetite for introducing more people to the wonderful sport of fishing. Plans are already underway for more Family Fishing Fun Days, so if you missed out this time, there will be plenty more opportunities to get involved.
