The Installation Meeting of John, Lord Lumley Lodge

In March 2020, John, Lord Lumley Lodge No 5885 received an Official Visit from W.Bro. David Olliver, ProvJGW, representing the RW. Provincial Grand Master.  Also present was W.Bro. Chris Eley, Provincial Grand Orator, a guest of W.Bro. John Edwards.  Chris acted as Assistant Director of Ceremonies.

The Lodge was opened by the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Vince Gibbs, PPDepGReg, who welcomed all the guests and visitors, especially W.Bro. David Olliver, the Official Visitor.

The main item on the agenda was to Install Bro. Andre Rostant as Worshipful Master.  The Worshipful Master invited W.Bro. Roy Fergusson to conduct the Ceremony of Installation.  This was done by W.Bro. Roy in an excellent manner.

The Address to the Master was given by W.Bro. Roy Fergusson, to the Wardens by W.Bro. Mike Warner, and to the Brethren by W.Bro. Simon Barton-Jones.

W.Bro. David Olliver, the Official Visitor, congratulated W.Bro. Andre Rostant and wished him an enjoyable year as Worshipful Master of the John, Lord Lumley Lodge.

The presentation of the 250th Anniversary Commemorative Jewel was given by W.Bro. John Edwards, the Lodge Director of Ceremonies.  On the completion of the presentation John gave an example of how the funds raised had been put in to practice.  In 2015 John underwent a major operation at the Royal Brompton Hospital and I month later returned to the hospital for a review of the surgery.  This review was carried out by one of the surgeons who assisted in the operation.  John asked if he would be able to take part in a 5 mile walk for charity which was to take place a couple of months afterwards.  Permission was given and the surgeon, when told that the walk was being supported by several Masonic Lodges in different Orders in Masonry, remarked that he himself had much to thank Freemasons for as he was awarded a substantial grant from the fund set up by Freemasons which enabled him to continue his studies and qualify as a surgeon.

Before the Lodge was closed there was a report on the door.  W.Bro. Kevin Stone. Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, entered and advised the Worshipful Master that the Provincial Grand Master, RW.Bro. Ian Chandler, was outside the door of the Lodge and demanded admission.  The Provincial Grand Master had been attending another Lodge meeting in the main Temple.

The Provincial Grand Master entered in procession with the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, VW.Bro. Richard Wileman, and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. Robert Dobbie; was offered the Gavel and took the Chair.

He congratulated the Worshipful Master on his installation and wished him a very enjoyable year.  After addressing the Brethren, the RW. Provincial Grand Master vacated the Chair and retired from the Lodge.

The Lodge was then closed and after the customary photograph the Brethren retired to the bar.

The Brethren of John, Lord Lumley Lodge and their guests then sat down to a most enjoyable festive board at the Sutton Masonic Centre.

The reply to the Toast to the Visiting Brethren was given by W.Bro. Chris Eley who said how good it was to visit W.Bro. John Edward’s Lodge for the first time, especially as John and Chris had been Assistant Provincial Grand Masters together for five years in the Provinces of Middlesex and Surrey and had formed a good friendship over those years.
