19 Dec The 2019 Provincial Family Carol Service
The 2019 Annual Provincial Carol Service was once again held this year at All Saints Church, Woodham, Woking.
The village of Woodham, adjacent to New Haw and Addlestone, has a long history, being mentioned in the Charter of Chertsey Abbey in 933, as having been part of the lands given to the Abbey by the Saxon Prince Frithwald. The church, however, is relatively modern and about three miles away from the original hamlet, on the edge of Horsell Common. It was built in 1894 when the then squire, Mr. Stevens, was dissatisfied with the churches in Woking, wanting something more Anglo-Catholic. There is nothing known to have been there previously except the common.
The service was led by the Vicar, Reverend Iain Forbes.
Many Companions, their families and friends had a most enjoyable time singing traditional carols and listening to the Provincial Choir under the direction of Robert Soper.
The readings were delivered by W.Bro. Andrew Fletcher; Mrs Claire Crocket; W.Bro. Michael Robinson; Lucy Reeve of the Provincial Choir; Richard Wileman, Deputy Provincial Grand Master; Richard Knox, Deputy Grand Superintendent; Ian Chandler, Provincial Grand Master; Rod Culbertson, Provincial Grand Chaplain; and Reverend Iain Forbes.
The Reverend Iain Forbes then gave his Christmas Address which talked about the difference each one of us can make in the lives of others.
Afterwards the Companions and their families enjoyed mince pies, cake, tea and coffee in the church hall with the Vicar and his team.
