27 Mar Masonic Charitable Foundation support for South East Cancer
W.Bro’s Nigel Feltham and Richard and Margaret Matthews visited the South East Cancer Help Centre in Purley to present a MCF donation certificate.
SECHC is supported purely from public donations and receives no Government or NHS funding.
It requires in excess of £200,000 per year in basic running costs alone. The centre is predominately resourced by volunteers working alongside fully qualified therapists and counsellors.
The Centre has been open for 36 years supporting patients, and their family members who have been affected by cancer.
They are operate five and half days a week providing complimentary therapies, information, individual and group support and other therapeutic activities to help people cope with their difficult and in some cases terminal illness.
SECHC is the only one of its kind in the UK and offers services such as Counselling, including bereavement and young persons.
One to one therapies such as Aromatherapy, Massage, Nutritional Advice, Reflexology, Hair Advice and much more.
During our visit we met volunteers, therapists, counsellors, patients and their family who were taking part in group activities tailored to their individual needs.
These included Art & Crafts, Choir, Drama, Pilates, Tai Chi, Yoga and much more
The dedication of the staff, some of whom were survives themselves from cancer, shone through.
The praise and comments of the patients brought home how important this centre is. This was a very moving and humble experience to present the certificate on behalf of the MCF and Freemasonry.
